The Team

We are a team of highly qualified professional Engineers

Barry Honeysett, BSc, CEng, MICE, MIStructE

Principal & Chartered Engineer

barry@barryhoneysett.co.uk

In 1993, Barry established this Practice. Following graduation from the Polytechnic of the South Bank in 1980, Barry worked for consultancy practices in the Exeter area. He became a Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers in 1987 and of the Institution of Structural Engineers in 1989.  Barry sits on the working group of the Devon Earth Building Association (DEBA) and has lectured on the diagnosis and repair of cob buildings for the Centre for Earthen Architecture at Plymouth University

Throughout his working life within consulting engineering practice, he has been involved the design of building structures ranging from small domestic extensions to commercial buildings and developments, dealing directly with clients, architects, etc. on projects from conception, through site investigation and final design to supervision of the works on site. Barry has undertaken a wide range of projects including sports and village halls, medical centres, housing developments often involving the adaptation of existing buildings, as well as the repair or restoration of historic buildings including properties that have suffered severe fire damage, applying conservation principles and philosophy.

Early in his career, Barry developed a specialism in the design of structural timber and an interest in the conservation in historic buildings spurred by acquiring a medieval cross passage farmhouse in need of extensive repair. This led to the investigation of repair methods and causes of defects in cob resulting in his extensive involvement with cob.

Thomas Bell BEng (Hons) MSc

Senior Structural Design Engineer

tom@barryhoneysett.co.uk

Thomas worked for the company for four years, re-joining us following completion of his research studies at the University of Strathclyde. He has a MSc in Timber Engineering and a PhD in the investigation of British homegrown timber in Engineered Wood Products. Tom’s specialism is timber design but he has been involved as a structural engineer across a wide spectrum of projects including conservation, commercial, industrial and public sector work.

Jamie Brockbank TIStructE Eng Tech

Senior Technician

jamie@barryhoneysett.co.uk

Jamie began as a structural draughtsman in 2002 working for multi-discipline consultancies Peter Brett Associates and WSP | Parsons Brinkerhoff before joining Barry Honeysett engineers in 2016. Primarily working under Building Structures teams Jamie has experience in a wide range of private and public sector projects varying in size, budget and construction materials. Generally involved in liaising with and assisting engineers with draughting duties on selected projects, Jamie’s role also includes drawing management, issuing and occasional site inspections. After gaining a National Certificate and Higher National Certificate in Civil Engineering in 2006 Jamie continued his professional development by qualifying for the Institution of Structural Engineers technician and EngTech memberships in 2012.

Eugénie Sentucq MEng MArch

Structural Design Engineer

eugenie@barryhoneysett.co.uk

Before joining Barry Honeysett in 2023, Eugénie was working for Structure Workshop in London since 2019. Her interest in engineering and architecture is centred around design challenges that combine aesthetics, environmental considerations, and material innovation. She has a double degree in Engineering and Architecture. As part of her master thesis, Eugénie explored alternatives to heating in cement manufacture. An emphasis on sustainability has been extended to her professional life, as she developed a Carbon Calculator tool for her previous company. This allows embodied carbon to be calculated and compared for alternative structural solutions which is very effective at the concept design stage when strategic decisions about the direction of a project are being taken.

Katie Baxter

Practice Administrator
